Falling Short of the Mark

An arrow rests in the grass beside an archery target, having fallen short instead of striking the center mark. The simple visual parable gives form to Romans 3:23: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” In biblical teaching, sin is not only open rebellion but also missing the holy mark of God’s righteousness. The target becomes a symbol of divine perfection, while the grounded arrow speaks of human inability to reach that standard by effort alone.
