Pilgrims on the Wilderness Road

Description
Two biblical-era travelers walk across a barren wilderness ridge as the sun rests low behind distant mountains. One man carries a tall walking staff and points the way forward, while the other follows with wrapped garments gathered for the journey. Their robes, sandals, head coverings, and open desert setting evoke the world of Scripture, where faith is often portrayed as a road of obedience, exile, calling, and trust in God’s provision.

The scene speaks to the biblical theme of pilgrimage: God’s people moving through uncertain terrain toward a promise they cannot yet see. The staff becomes a symbol of guidance and dependence, and the dawn or dusk horizon suggests both departure and hope. This visual is well suited for ministry themes of discipleship, wilderness seasons, calling, endurance, Abrahamic faith, and the life of the sojourner.

Scriptures
Genesis 12:1-4   Hebrews 11:13-16   Psalm 121:1-2

Genesis 12

1 Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” 4 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Hebrews 11

13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
