Jesus Touches the Healed Leper

Description

Jesus stands beside a joyful Israelite man in a rocky wilderness setting, placing His hand on the man's shoulder in a personal act of mercy and restoration. The man, dressed in a simple robe and head covering, holds a walking staff and cloth wrappings, suggesting the burden of sickness and isolation now being lifted.

The scene reflects the Gospel accounts of Jesus healing a leper, where Christ does what others would not do: He reaches out and touches the unclean. In biblical context, leprosy separated a person from worship, family, and community. Jesus’ touch reveals more than physical healing; it proclaims the cleansing power of the kingdom of God and restores the sufferer to fellowship. This artwork serves ministries teaching on compassion, healing, faith, mercy, and the authority of Christ over disease and uncleanness.

Scriptures
Luke 5:12-16   Mark 10:51   Mark 1:40-45   Matthew 21:14   Matthew 8:1-4   Matthew 9:28

Luke 5

12 While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” 13 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him. 14 And he charged him to tell no one, but “go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” 15 But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities. 16 But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.

Mark 10

51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.”

Mark 1

40 And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” 41 Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.” 42 And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. 43 And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once, 44 and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” 45 But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter.

Matthew 21

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.

Matthew 8

1 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. 2 And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” 3 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”

Matthew 9

28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”
