About the artwork
High Place of Idolatry depicts worshipers gathered before a towering bull idol at a stone high place. Fire burns on the altar as figures bow on the steps, surrounded by garlands and fruit offerings. Others watch from the courtyard, drawing the eye toward the ritual at the center of the scene.
The setting evokes the Old Testament warning against Israel’s high places, where unauthorized altars and images drew people away from covenant worship of the Lord. The bull recalls calf worship and the temptation to put trust in visible symbols rather than the living God. As described in 1 Kings 12:28-33 (ESV), calf images became part of a worship practice that led Israel away from the Lord.
A thought-provoking choice for a church foyer or office, this artwork invites reflection on idolatry, repentance, and covenant faithfulness. Printed on archival canvas with mirror-wrapped edges, it arrives ready to hang.
