Description
Jesus Christ stands at the entrance of a great stone structure whose foundation bears His name. On the pillars are the words, “Upon this Rock I will build My Church” and “Heaven and earth shall pass away but My words shall not pass away,” declaring the permanence of Christ and Scripture. At the left, a robed “Higher Critic” holds tools marked “skepticism” and “doubt,” while another laborer labeled “infidelity” pries at the foundation with a lever marked “evolution,” trying to lift the stone of “conceit.” The allegory contrasts human unbelief with the immovable authority of Christ. Rooted in Matthew 16:18 and Matthew 24:35, the composition teaches that the church is not founded upon speculation, criticism, or human pride, but upon the living Christ whose word endures beyond the passing world. This work serves well for apologetics, Bible authority themes, church teaching, Reformation study, and sermons on the reliability of Scripture.
