Pharaoh’s Daughter Finds Moses

Description
Baby Moses is discovered among the reeds of the Nile, lifted from danger by the compassion of Pharaoh’s daughter. His woven basket rests at the water’s edge while Egyptian attendants stand nearby with royal dress, fan, and river plants framing the scene. The setting recalls the moment when Moses’ mother hid him in an ark of bulrushes to preserve his life from Pharaoh’s decree, and the child was drawn from the river into the household of Egypt’s ruler.

The scene emphasizes God’s hidden providence: the Nile, meant to be a place of death for Hebrew sons, becomes the place where Israel’s future deliverer is preserved. Pharaoh’s own house shelters the child who will later confront Pharaoh and lead God’s people toward freedom. This artwork is well suited for Bible lessons, children’s ministry, Exodus studies, sermons on providence, and visual teaching about courage, adoption, and divine deliverance.

Scriptures
Acts 7:20-22   Exodus 2:3-10   Hebrews 11:23

Acts 7

20 At this time Moses was born; and he was beautiful in God's sight. And he was brought up for three months in his father's house, 21 and when he was exposed, Pharaoh's daughter adopted him and brought him up as her own son. 22 And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds.

Exodus 2

3 When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank. 4 And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. 5 Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her young women walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her servant woman, and she took it. 6 When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews' children.” 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, “Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” 8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, “Go.” So the girl went and called the child's mother. 9 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”

Hebrews 11

23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
