Elijah Casts His Mantle on Elisha

Product

Description
Elijah stands beside the furrow with his staff in hand, laying his prophetic mantle across Elisha as the young man pauses from plowing with oxen. The field, teams of cattle, and distant hills place the calling in the ordinary labor of rural Israel, where God’s summons interrupts daily work and appoints a servant for holy ministry. The scene portrays the moment from 1 Kings 19 when Elijah finds Elisha son of Shaphat plowing and casts his cloak upon him, a visible sign of prophetic succession and divine calling. Elisha’s turned body and lowered plow capture the decisive threshold between his former life and his future service. For teaching and ministry use, the artwork speaks to vocation, discipleship, obedience, mentorship, and the passing of spiritual responsibility from one generation to the next.

Scriptures
1 Kings 19:19-21

1 Kings 19

19 So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him. 20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21 And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.
