About the artwork
A Kingdom Divided portrays Ahijah the prophet and Jeroboam meeting in the wilderness, with torn strips of a cloak held between them. Rocky hills and a flowing river frame their encounter, giving the prophetic sign a setting.
The divided garment represents the fracture of Solomon’s kingdom: ten tribes are given to Jeroboam, while one remains with the house of David. As recounted in 1 Kings 11:29-32 (ESV), the sign points to both coming division and the preservation of a remnant. The story warns of the consequences of idolatry and unfaithfulness while affirming God’s enduring faithfulness to David’s line.
A choice for a church foyer, office, or living room, this artwork invites reflection on judgment, succession, and covenant promise. Printed on archival canvas with mirror-wrapped edges, it arrives ready to hang.
