Uzzah Falls Beside the Ark

Product
Image ID

Description
Uzzah reels backward beside the ox-drawn cart carrying the sacred Ark of the Covenant, its blue covering rising above the wooden frame as the procession moves through the open countryside. The oxen press forward while men nearby look on, and the fallen man’s raised arm and covered face mark the sudden judgment recorded during King David’s attempt to bring the ark to Jerusalem. The scene reflects the account in 2 Samuel and 1 Chronicles, where Uzzah reaches toward the ark when the oxen stumble and is struck down because the holy presence of God is not to be handled casually. This artwork emphasizes reverence, obedience, and the seriousness of worship, making it useful for teaching on holiness, the Ark of the Covenant, David’s reign, and the difference between zeal for God and obedience to God’s command.

Scriptures
1 Chronicles 13:7-11   2 Samuel 6:3-8

1 Chronicles 13

7 And they carried the ark of God on a new cart, from the house of Abinadab, and Uzzah and Ahio were driving the cart. 8 And David and all Israel were rejoicing before God with all their might, with song and lyres and harps and tambourines and cymbals and trumpets. 9 And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah put out his hand to take hold of the ark, for the oxen stumbled. 10 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he put out his hand to the ark, and he died there before God. 11 And David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzza to this day.
