Thirty Pieces of Silver

Product

Description
A worn money pouch lies open on a wooden table, filled with silver coins—the payment given to Judas Iscariot for betraying Jesus Christ. The empty setting places full attention on the purse and its contents, turning the coins into a solemn symbol of greed, betrayal, and the tragic price placed on the Lord’s life.

The scene draws from Matthew 26:15, where Judas asks the chief priests, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” The thirty pieces of silver expose the spiritual danger of valuing earthly gain above faithfulness. For teaching, sermon visuals, Holy Week resources, or Bible study materials, this artwork emphasizes the sorrowful beginning of Christ’s Passion and the cost of a divided heart.

Scriptures
Luke 22:3-6   Mark 14:10-11   Matthew 26:14-16   Matthew 26:15   Matthew 27:3-10   Zechariah 11:12-13

Luke 22

3 Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. 4 He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.

Mark 14

10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him.

Matthew 26

14 Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

Matthew 26

15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.

Matthew 27

3 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” 5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. 6 But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.” 7 So they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field as a burial place for strangers. 8 Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, 10 and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me.”

Zechariah 11

12 Then I said to them, “If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver. 13 Then the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—the lordly price at which I was priced by them. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD, to the potter.
