Their turbans, robes, and dignified bearing identify them as the wise men from the East described in Matthew 2, men who followed the rising star to worship Christ. The composition focuses on the visitors themselves rather than the stable, emphasizing their status, their journey, and their reverent purpose. In the Gospel account, their arrival reveals that Jesus is not only Israel’s Messiah but the Savior worthy of honor from the nations.
