About the artwork

Rolf Jansson’s The Cyrenian presents a bold, expressive portrayal of the road to the crucifixion. Christ is shown low beneath the diagonal cross, while a standing figure grips its beam and a small group gathers close behind.

The work recalls Simon of Cyrene, compelled to carry the cross as Jesus continued toward Calvary. Matthew 27:32 (ESV) points to this moment of unexpected service, inviting reflection on compassion, burdens shared, and faithful presence in suffering.

With its striking simplified forms and devotional focus, this Christian canvas print offers a meaningful addition to a church foyer or office. Printed on archival canvas with mirror-wrapped edges, it arrives ready to hang.
