The Centurion at the Cross

Jesus hangs upon the central cross at Golgotha, flanked by the two crucified criminals, while a Roman centurion stands in the foreground and looks toward Him with solemn recognition. The soldier’s armor and commanding presence identify him as an officer overseeing the execution, yet his face turns from duty toward revelation. Above Christ, the charge sign is fixed to the cross, and the darkened sky behind the three crosses recalls the fearful signs surrounding the death of the Lord.

The scene reflects the confession recorded after the crucifixion: when the centurion saw what took place, he declared that Jesus was truly the Son of God.
