Sojourners Across the Wilderness

Product

Description
Israelite travelers move across a rocky wilderness ridge, clothed in ancient robes and head coverings, with staffs and bundled provisions in hand. The barren hills and dry scrub evoke the long desert road of God’s people after the exodus from Egypt, when Israel lived as pilgrims dependent on the Lord’s guidance and provision. The figures suggest families and elders journeying together, a visual meditation on obedience, hardship, and covenant identity in the wilderness. This subject also speaks to the New Testament theme of believers as sojourners and exiles, called to walk faithfully while passing through a temporary world toward God’s promise.

Scriptures
1 Peter 2:11   Deuteronomy 8:2   Exodus 13:17-18   Numbers 10:33-36

1 Peter 2

11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.

Deuteronomy 8

2 And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

Exodus 13

17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” 18 But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle.

Numbers 10

33 So they set out from the mount of the LORD three days' journey. And the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting place for them. 34 And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, whenever they set out from the camp. 35 And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Arise, O LORD, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.” 36 And when it rested, he said, “Return, O LORD, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.”
