Shepherd With the Lost Lamb

Product
Image ID
ebsps0810
Description
A shepherd carries a lamb through the wilderness, pausing beside a seated man with a staff on the rocky desert path. The barren brush, sunlit ravine, and simple biblical garments place the moment in a first-century pastoral setting, where survival depends on guidance, protection, and care for the flock. The lamb held securely against the shepherd’s shoulders gives the scene a clear connection to the biblical image of the shepherd who seeks what is lost and brings it home with mercy. This artwork is well suited for themes of the Good Shepherd, pastoral care, repentance, rescue, discipleship, and God’s compassion for the vulnerable. It visually echoes Jesus’ teaching in Luke 15, where the shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to recover the one sheep, revealing the Father’s joy over restoration.

John 10

11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Luke 15

4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’

Matthew 18

12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? 13 And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. 14 So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
