Shepherd in the Wilderness

Product
Image ID
ebsps0854
Description
A lone shepherd walks through a rocky desert valley, wrapped in a striped outer cloak and steadying each step with a curved wooden staff. The barren path, dry ravine, and surrounding stone hills give the scene the feel of ancient Judean wilderness, where guidance, endurance, and protection were daily necessities for those who kept flocks. The staff is the central symbol: a tool for leading, guarding, and rescuing, echoing the comfort of Psalm 23, where the Lord is confessed as Shepherd who provides, restores, and leads through the valley without fear. With the figure moving forward into the rugged landscape, the artwork serves well for teaching on trust, pastoral care, spiritual pilgrimage, wilderness seasons, and the Lord’s faithful guidance.

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
