Mary Comforted at the Tomb

Mary sits in deep mourning beside the stone entrance of the tomb, her face hidden in her hands while a young disciple gently reaches toward her in consolation. The quiet garden setting, stone pavement, and shadowed burial place place the scene in the sorrowful hours surrounding the burial of Jesus. The image reflects the human cost of the Passion: a mother’s grief, the tenderness of faithful companionship, and the waiting silence before resurrection hope. In the Gospel witness, Mary stands near the cross and is entrusted to the beloved disciple’s care; here that same ministry of comfort is shown beside the tomb.
