Mary and Joseph Journey to Bethlehem

Product
Image ID
ebsps0530
Description
Mary and Joseph walk together across a rugged wilderness path, dressed in simple first-century garments and head coverings as they make their way through rocky terrain. Joseph stands beside Mary as a protective companion, guiding her through the difficult road toward Bethlehem. The scene evokes the humble obedience of the Holy Family before the birth of Jesus, when Joseph went from Nazareth to the city of David because of the census, taking Mary with him while she was expecting the promised child. The barren landscape emphasizes the cost of faithfulness: the Messiah enters the world not through comfort or royal display, but through pilgrimage, trust, and God’s providential ordering of history. This artwork is well suited for Advent, Christmas teaching, nativity resources, sermon slides, Bible study materials, and ministry visuals focused on obedience, incarnation, and the journey to Bethlehem.

Scriptures
Luke 2:4-5   Matthew 1:18-25

Luke 2

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.

Matthew 1

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
