Description
King Saul sits within the shadowed mouth of a rocky cave, crowned and robed in royal purple, with his sword resting across his knees. Behind him stand a young attendant and an armored soldier, emphasizing the tension of a king on campaign in the wilderness. The cavern setting recalls the pursuit of David, when Saul entered the cave where David and his men were hidden. In 1 Samuel 24, David refuses to strike the Lord’s anointed, cutting only the corner of Saul’s robe as a witness to mercy, restraint, and trust in God’s timing. The artwork highlights the fragile boundary between royal power and divine accountability, making it suited for teaching on forgiveness, conscience, leadership, and the sovereignty of God.
