Joseph’s Brothers Bow Before Him

Joseph sits in authority as governor of Egypt, clothed in Egyptian royal garments while his brothers bow low before him with their faces to the ground. The palace setting, carved screens, and ornate chair emphasize Joseph’s exalted position after years of betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment. The scene depicts the fulfillment of Joseph’s earlier dreams, when his family’s sheaves bowed before his own, now realized during the famine as his brothers come to Egypt seeking grain. Their posture of submission reveals the providence of God at work: what was meant for evil becomes part of God’s plan to preserve life.
