Jonah Cast Into the Sea

Description
Jonah is hurled from a storm-tossed vessel as sailors strain at the ropes and oars, their faces turned between terror and pleading. The ship rises against violent waves while the prophet falls toward the sea, marking the decisive moment when the men obey Jonah’s own instruction to cast him overboard so the raging waters will become calm. The scene draws from Jonah 1, where Jonah flees from the command of the Lord and boards a ship bound for Tarshish. The storm exposes his disobedience, yet also reveals God’s sovereign mercy: the pagan sailors cry out to the Lord, sacrifice, and fear Him exceedingly after the sea is stilled. This artwork serves sermon, Bible study, and teaching themes of repentance, divine pursuit, obedience, judgment, mercy, and God’s rule over creation.
