John in Exile by the Waters of Patmos
John the Apostle sits in a barren rocky landscape beside a narrow flowing stream, his long white hair and beard marking the weight of age, endurance, and spiritual witness. Wrapped in a dark robe with simple trim, he rests in contemplation among cliffs and wilderness, evoking the loneliness of exile and the sacred stillness in which revelation is received.
The scene reflects Revelation 1:9, where John identifies himself as a brother and partner in tribulation, exiled on Patmos “on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.” The surrounding wilderness becomes a place of divine encounter: isolation is not abandonment, but the setting where God unveils Christ’s victory, judgment, and coming kingdom.
