Jesus Wrapped in Burial Linen

Product
Image ID
sdmas0034
Description
Jesus lies in the tomb, His body bound in linen burial cloths after the crucifixion. The shrouded form rests in the darkness of the grave, emphasizing the stillness between Good Friday and the dawn of resurrection. The visible linen wrappings connect directly to the burial customs described in the Gospels, when Joseph of Arimathea took the body of Jesus, wrapped Him in clean linen, and placed Him in a new tomb. This solemn subject speaks of Christ’s real death, His willing descent into the grave, and the fulfilled preparation for the resurrection that would follow. It is suited for Holy Week, Good Friday, Easter teaching, sermons on atonement, and reflections on the burial of Christ.

John 19

39 Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.

53 Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid him in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid.

Mark 15

46 And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

Matthew 27

59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.
