Israelites Gathering Manna

Description
Israelites gather manna in the wilderness, filling woven baskets with the small white provision spread among the ground and low branches. A robed man bends forward to collect the food, while a woman in the distance carries a full basket upon her head, showing the daily labor of a people sustained by God during their journey after Egypt. The scene reflects the wilderness miracle recorded in Exodus 16, where the Lord gave bread from heaven and instructed each household to gather what was needed for the day. The manna becomes a visible lesson in dependence, obedience, and divine faithfulness: Israel could not hoard tomorrow’s grace, but had to trust the Provider each morning. This artwork suits teaching on God’s provision, wilderness faith, daily bread, and Old Testament Sunday school lessons.

Scriptures
Exodus 16:14-18   Exodus 16:31-32   Numbers 11:7-9

Exodus 16

14 And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat. 16 This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer, according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’” 17 And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less. 18 But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat.

Exodus 16

31 Now the house of Israel called its name manna. It was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. 32 Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”

Numbers 11

7 Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like that of bdellium. 8 The people went about and gathered it and ground it in handmills or beat it in mortars and boiled it in pots and made cakes of it. And the taste of it was like the taste of cakes baked with oil. 9 When the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell with it.
