Israelites at the Wilderness Altar

Product
Image ID
ebsps0869
Description
Israelite men stand on a rocky desert rise beside a simple stone altar, holding vessels in a posture of reverent worship. The barren hill, open sky, and uncut stones evoke the wilderness setting where God’s people offered sacrifices and prayers during their journey. The altar is built from gathered rocks rather than carved masonry, reflecting the biblical command that worship be offered without human pride or ornament overshadowing obedience to the Lord. This scene speaks to covenant devotion, consecration, and the practice of bringing offerings before God in the wilderness. It is well suited for teaching on Old Testament worship, Israel’s desert journey, sacrifice, obedience, and the sacred meeting place between God and His people.

Scriptures
Deuteronomy 27:5-7   Exodus 20:24-25

Deuteronomy 27

5 And there you shall build an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. You shall wield no iron tool on them; 6 you shall build an altar to the LORD your God of uncut stones. And you shall offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God, 7 and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and shall eat there, and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God.

Exodus 20

24 An altar of earth you shall make for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you. 25 If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stones, for if you wield your tool on it you profane it.
