Hailstones at Beth Horon
A violent battlefield is crushed beneath a dark, rolling storm as armored soldiers, horses, shields, tents, and fallen warriors fill the ground. From the heavens, heavy hailstones descend upon the routed army, turning the battle into an act of divine judgment rather than mere human combat.
The scene portrays the Lord’s intervention for Joshua during the campaign against the Amorite kings near Beth Horon. In Joshua 10, Israel’s enemies flee before Joshua, and God casts great stones from heaven upon them. The composition emphasizes that victory belongs to the Lord: armies clash below, but the decisive force comes from above. This artwork serves well for teaching on divine sovereignty, Old Testament warfare, judgment, deliverance, and God’s faithfulness to His covenant people.
