Robe and Crown of Thorns With Churches in Background

Description
Christ’s empty robe stands beneath a suspended crown of thorns, presenting the Passion of Jesus through sacred symbols rather than a visible figure. The red outer garment and pale inner tunic recall the robe placed on Jesus during His humiliation before the crucifixion, while the thorn crown speaks of mockery, suffering, and kingship revealed through sacrifice. In the distance, small church buildings rise along a winding road, connecting the suffering of Jesus Christ to the worshiping church that follows Him through history. The composition invites reflection on the paradox of the Gospel: the rejected King becomes the Savior, and His path of affliction becomes the road of redemption for His people. This artwork suits Holy Week, Good Friday, Lent, sermon visuals on the Passion, and church resources centered on Christ’s atoning sacrifice.

Scriptures
John 19:2-5   Mark 15:17-20   Matthew 27:28-31

John 19

2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. 3 They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands. 4 Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that I find no guilt in him.” 5 So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the man!”

Mark 15

17 And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. 18 And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.

Matthew 27

28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.
