A Child Is Born

Description
Jochebed cradles the newborn Moses while his father watches tenderly beside the woven basket prepared for the child. The quiet family moment points to the opening of Exodus, when a Hebrew mother hid her son during Pharaoh’s command against Israel’s male infants. The basket beside them foreshadows the ark of bulrushes that would carry Moses upon the Nile, where God’s providence preserved him for a future calling as Israel’s deliverer. This artwork emphasizes the faith of Moses’ parents, the sanctity of life, and the hidden beginnings of God’s redemptive work through a helpless child.

Exodus 2

1 Now a man from the house of Levi went and took as his wife a Levite woman. 2 The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. 3 When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank.

Exodus 6

20 Amram took as his wife Jochebed his father's sister, and she bore him Aaron and Moses, the years of the life of Amram being 137 years.

Hebrews 11

23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
