Family Sharing the Nativity

Description
An African American father and mother sit closely with their young daughter, guiding her hands as she holds figures from the Nativity. Beside them rests a humble stable with Mary, Joseph, the manger, and the Christ child, placing the family’s Christmas celebration around the birth of Jesus. The home setting gives the scene a devotional intimacy: parents are not only decorating for the season, they are passing the gospel story to their child through touch, conversation, and shared wonder. The visible manger points to Luke’s account of Christ born in Bethlehem and laid in a manger, while the family circle reflects the biblical call to teach God’s works diligently to the next generation. This artwork serves well for Christmas ministry, family discipleship resources, Advent devotionals, church newsletters, and Christian parenting themes.

Scriptures
Deuteronomy 6:6-7   Luke 2:6-16   Psalm 78:4   Psalms 128:1-4

Deuteronomy 6

6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Luke 2

6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” 15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.

Psalm 78

4 We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.

Psalm 128

1 Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
