David the Shepherd Psalmist

David stands on a hillside among his sheep, dressed as a young shepherd with a harp resting against his shoulder. His gaze lifts toward the open sky, joining pastoral care with worshipful song. The sheep, rocky pasture, and stringed instrument identify the future king of Israel in his early calling, before the throne and before the battles that would define his public life. The scene reflects David as shepherd, musician, and servant of the Lord. In Scripture, David is found keeping his father’s flock when Samuel comes to anoint him, and he later becomes known as the skillful harp player brought before Saul.
