Daughters of Jerusalem Weeping
Women of Jerusalem cry out in anguish along a stone city street, their hands lifted to their heads and faces covered in grief. The scene reflects the mourners who followed Jesus on the road to the crucifixion, weeping as He carried His cross toward Calvary.
In Luke 23:28, Jesus turns to them and says, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.” Their visible sorrow becomes more than sympathy for His suffering; it points to the coming judgment and the deeper need for repentance. This artwork serves well for Holy Week, Good Friday teaching, Passion narratives, sermons on lament, and ministry reflections on compassion, grief, and the cost of sin.
