Crowned With Thorns

Description
Jesus Christ lies beneath the weight of the cross, His face bloodied by the crown of thorns pressed into His brow. In the background, a hammer and nails reveal the brutal nearness of the crucifixion, focusing the viewer on the suffering Servant who is wounded for the sins of the world. The close perspective draws attention to the cost of redemption: mockery, physical torment, and willing obedience. This Passion scene reflects the fulfillment of prophecy in Isaiah 53:5, where the Messiah is pierced and crushed so that peace and healing may come through His sacrifice. Strong for Good Friday, Easter, sermon visuals, repentance themes, and teaching on Christ’s atonement.

Isaiah 53

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.

John 19

16 So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus, 17 and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.

John 19

2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. 3 They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands.

Mark 15

17 And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. 18 And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.

Matthew 27

29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.

Psalm 22

16 For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet—
