Boaz and the Elders at the City Gate

Description
Boaz sits among the elders at the stone gate of the city, surrounded by robed men gathered for public judgment and covenant witness. The arched entrance opens onto the street beyond, placing the meeting in the ancient civic space where legal matters were heard, agreements were confirmed, and a community’s conscience was represented by its elders. The scene reflects the account in Ruth 4, where Boaz comes to the gate of Bethlehem, calls the nearer redeemer and ten elders, and secures the right to redeem the inheritance of Elimelech and marry Ruth. The gathering emphasizes righteous dealing, lawful redemption, and God’s providence working through ordinary public obedience. For ministry use, the artwork supports themes of kinsman-redeemer theology, covenant faithfulness, biblical justice, family restoration, and the lineage that leads from Ruth and Boaz toward David and ultimately Christ.
