At the Foot of the Cross

Jesus hangs upon the rough wooden cross while men gather beneath Him, looking up at the crucified Lord. The close viewpoint emphasizes the weight of the timber, the bound body of Christ, and the human witnesses standing near the place of execution. Their presence recalls the Gospel accounts of Roman crucifixion, where Jesus was lifted up and His garments were divided by those below.
