Description
Absalom hangs helplessly from the branches of a great oak, his hair caught in the tree while a soldier stands nearby with a weapon raised. The royal garments and wooded battlefield point to the tragic end of David’s rebellious son, recorded in 2 Samuel 18. Absalom’s pride and ambition led him to seize the hearts of Israel and rise against his father, but the very hair that marked his celebrated appearance became the snare of his downfall. The scene captures the solemn warning of Scripture: outward glory cannot save a soul from the consequences of rebellion. This artwork is suited for teaching on David’s family tragedy, the cost of pride, civil conflict in Israel, and the mercy and grief of King David after Absalom’s death.
